Every booking begins with an agreed assessment plan.
We establish the number of learners to be assessed, the purpose of each referral, the available background information and the documentation required.
We also confirm whether the centre will provide the assessment materials or whether appropriate materials will be supplied by V.A.S.E.N.
Before the visit, the school or college identifies a suitable room, prepares the relevant learner information and coordinates the timetable with the assessor.
This preparation helps make effective use of the assessment day and reduces avoidable delays.
The agreed assessment is undertaken using appropriate procedures and standardised measures relevant to the referral.
Assessment findings are recorded and scored in accordance with the requirements of the measures used. Relevant observations and background information are considered when interpreting the results.
Assessment activity is conducted in accordance with the applicable professional procedures and the agreed arrangements.
Following the assessment, results are scored and interpreted, and the agreed written documentation is prepared.
Depending on the service commissioned, this may include individual assessment reports, relevant assessor sections of JCQ documentation and other agreed assessment records.
Where the centre has commissioned a comprehensive reporting service, the scope of documentation and arrangements for liaison with the designated school or college contact are confirmed before the booking.
The centre retains responsibility for its own evidence of normal way of working, completion of centre-specific sections, access arrangements applications and decisions under the applicable examination regulations.
Schools and colleges differ in the assessment resources they hold and the way they organise their access arrangements processes.
V.A.S.E.N can accommodate different arrangements, subject to suitability and agreement before the assessment date.
Centre-provided materials
Where the school or college has appropriate assessment materials available, we can agree to work with those materials, provided they are suitable for the intended assessment and can be administered in accordance with the relevant requirements.
V.A.S.E.N-provided materials
Where the centre requires assessment materials to be supplied, this can be agreed in advance. The measures selected will depend on the assessment purpose, the learner's age and the evidence required.
Assessment planning
Before the visit, we confirm the materials to be used, the number of learners, the proposed schedule and the scope of reporting. This ensures that the assessment arrangements are clear to both parties.
Different schools and colleges require different levels of assessment and documentation. V.A.S.E.N therefore agrees the scope of each booking in advance.
This option covers the agreed assessment activity, scoring, interpretation and written assessment report.
Where required, the service can also include completion of the relevant assessor sections of JCQ Form 8 or other applicable documentation, within the assessor's role and the agreed scope.
For centres seeking a more complete assessment and reporting process, a broader package can be agreed. This may include assessment, written reports and completion of the applicable assessor documentation, together with agreed administrative elements.
The precise scope will be established before the booking. Sections that require completion or confirmation by the SENCo or other authorised centre personnel remain the centre's responsibility.
